Figs jam

Although this post has nothing to do with beads or yarns then it is still about making by hand.

It was my very first time to make jam, I have seen lots of jars in kitchen while my mother has made jam, but I have never really participated or been interested. Well there is first time for everything.

As now I live in a place where fig trees are so common and for me they are bit exotic then I thought to make a fig jam, as I have liked this jam when I have tried it.

So I had been waiting for the figs to ripen and went to pick them by hand from a tree. So I got a nice bag full, then looked up some recipes, but did not really do by any of them, just got the general idea. So I peeled off the skin and took only the inside of the figs.
Put them in a large sauce pan, added one jar of water, then some 300 g of sugar, just a little bit of cinnamon and some lemon juice.
Then cooked until it was nice a jammy looking, about 40 min or so. Then had some jars waiting, that I dipped in boiling water, also the cans. And then poured into one.
As I am so rookie in the jam making I had like 5 jars waiting and well just one got filled and a little into the second one. Of course there was a lot of mess. The jar can that I put did not hold as I put the jar upside down (as I had seen my mom often to that) and all the jam was all over the place. I collected it as I could and put it into a different one.
Well and now I have one jar of fig jam!! :D I have to say I really like the taste, so although it was a lot of hassle I probably will make some more jam before the fig season is over. To have some nice jam for the porridge in the winter.

Keetsin esmakordselt ise moosi, ma olen palju näinud ema moositegemise pudeleid ja purke köögis, kuid ei ole kunagi ise kaasa teinud või väga huvitatudki olnud. Tuleb välja, et iga asja jaoks on esimene kord.

Kuna ma elan nüüd paigas, kus viigimarjade puud on tavaline nähtus ja minule on natuke nagu eksootika, siis otsustasin teha viigimarjamoosi, varasemalt olen proovinud ja on meeldinud.

Seega ootasin millal viigimarjad hakkavad valmima ja läksin korjasin. Tundus hea kotitäis viigimarju olevat, vaatasin paari netiretsepti, kuid täpselt millegi järgi ei teinud, lihtsalt inspiratsiooniks. Koorisin viigimarjad ära ja sisu suurele pottpannile.
Lisasin tassi vett, umbes 300 grammi suhkurt, natuke kaneeli ja sidrunimahla.
Keetsin seda pada nii kaua kui tundus, et nüüd on moosi moodi, nii 40 min. Purgid olid mul ootel, kastsin need ja ka kaaned keevasse vette enne. Ja valasin siis moosi purki.
Täieliku algajana olin varunud mingi viis purki, kuid täis tuli ainult üks ja natuke veel teise. Loomulikult oli segadust kui palju. Esimene purk, millesse valasin, ei olnud hea kaanega ja kui ma purgi tagurpidi panin (lihtsalt sellepärast et olin ema purke niimoodi näinud) tuli kaas lahti ja moos valgus välja. Korjasin selle nii hästi kui võimalik jälle kokku ja panin teise purki.
Ja nüüd ongi mul üks purk viigimarja moosi!! :D Pean ütlema, et mulle väga meeldib selle maitse, seega kuigi jamamist oli küllaga, siis arvatavasti tuleb uus viigimarjamoosi tegu enne kui nende hooaeg lõppeb, et oleks head moosi talveks pudru peale panna.
